The Skinny

Flag Football 3/10/08

Well the streak is over, thanks to Old Man River but, a 4-1 week is not bad for the master of prognostication.  My overall record holds now at an incredible 20-5. Onto the games...

Game 1 – Storm v Millertime

After there last two games both these teams need a win to stay out of the cellar in their division.  All that gets you is an extra playoff game in the 4v5 series.  However, it also means you get to play the number one seed next.  The storm could use Han, Luke, and Darth to straighten out their team and Millertime just needs Coach Ditka to drive the team bus.  Team MVP George Stevenson continues to excel and maybe this week he can score some points on offense as long as some quarterback can get him the ball.  Both teams can use a few players for next season but most important, a quarterback.  They have used a combined 10 of them this season with none having a rating over 60. My prediction...and this is one of the tougher games, but someone will come home with a W– Storm  22, Millertime 8.

Game 2 – Jags v Gamecocks

With so much riding on this game, ties included, you can tell Freddie he can come back and play – the league fee is paid in full.  The Gamecocks, will bring their A-game until of course the last 10 minutes when they completely fall apart as Pete runs when he should throw or throws when he should run.  Giving him the time is his offensive line du jour – Big Ben “Road Warrior Animal” Marcus and Pat “Quiet Storm” Denardo.  On the other side of the beach, Rod Stewart better have his hot legs as he hopes to “plug” every hole in the Gamecocks defense.  With the Schwartz off somewhere combing the desert for clues and Dr. Joe Larocca performing emergency surgery on George’s bicep, Todd can only hope the season extends a few more weeks to get everyone healthy.– Gamecocks 52, Jags 46

Game 3 – Light Speed v Mile High Boys

What the Mile High Boys need is what is exactly on the menu – Light Speed.  The speeders have yet to put anything up in the win column as there 46 points scored are also less than half there nearest team.  Almog will be running and Frank “Refrigerator” Chuderater will be catching them all as they should make quick work of the speeders like they were profiling state troopers on the jersey turnpike.  If this game does not get out of hand and both teams can control themselves without any *@$^%$(*^ or physical stuff, the game should go the distance.  If not look for an early end – Mile High 52, Light Speed 8

Game 4 – Firehawks v Barracudas

In a season of upsets in this division, no one is more surprised that Eddie and Manny have hooked up on so many passes.  With the chauffer catching so many passes and Sonny Han making all of those pulls the Firehawks are finally on a roll – spring roll that is.  However, on the other side of the ball another team is just on the edge of surprising an opponent and that is the Cudas.  With a roster having more players than the entire Monmouth football squad, Jaeger may have finally found the key to winning – having his boy Shane on the other side of him.  If he gets his quarterback, whoever that may be that night enough time to throw it, they just may pull off the major upset.  That’s why I got to go with them – that is in the consolation round not this week- Firehawks 52, Barracudas 50

Game 5 – First Round v Rebels

This game is like the Knicks getting the Celtics after they lose to New Jersey.  First Round has seen better times than this season and may hold true to their name and get that pick in next years session, however this is flag football not the pros.  Case in point Audie Nova still leads the team in points and he hasn’t played since week three.  There have been stars rising however with the heavily tattooed Chris Springblood making several pulls.  On the other side, the Rebels are coming off one of their worst losses of the season.  Losing John Krajamus to a freak bathroom accident – something about slipping on the wet floor – has really hurt the receivers as even Marcus and mini-me can’t bring in every pass.  Hopefully the defense will rise but in this one they won’t need them as this knockout should happen just like the team name says    Rebels 56, First Round 18
