The Skinny

Flag Football 1/7/08

Welcome to the New Year and here is tonight’s return installment of the SKINNY.

Game 1 – First Round v Mile High Boys

After dispatching the Spartans and with a close game, the Rounders may just find out what they are made of.  These boys from Denver are hoping their season goes better than the pros and it just may be the top game of the night.  Look for the Rounders to use their no huddle, quarterback under center, offense as the Milers may want to steal an armband or two to get into their playbook.  Call it another close one – First Round 24, Mile High 22.  Score – Mile High 36, First Round 8 – How wrong could you be.  Sorry Tom,  looks like I may never be invited back to Vegas.

Game 2 – Dynasty v Monaghan House

With the names of C-Rob and T-Rob on your team, how can’t you be good?  Leading the offense this game all the way from Middlesex County is Mr. Metuchen or is it McClutchen.  Either way mobility and speed are two trademarks this early undefeated team has.  On the other side of the ball, we have what hopes to be a dynasty.  Playing in the lower division that may soon be the case as they must win out to move up.  Junito may look to tackle first, pull later but he really is a big softie at heart.  Experince may beat speed tonight – Dynasty 34, Monaghan House 30.  Score -  Monaghan 44, Dynasty 20.  Another disaster for the swami as speed can win.  Come on Coppola bulk up a little and throw it deep on a line next game.

Game 3 – Spartans v Rebels

Not having a bye the first weeks of the season may spell doom and gloom for the leader of Sparticus, Young Geiger.  Hoping to compete may be all these warriors have in store for this game as the Rebels have improved at every position from last season.  Having two Krajamus’s may be better than one as between them they make one athlete combined.  Don’t forget to factor in their trash talking girls from the sidelines as one of the more vocal athletic supporters.  Call it a romp, blowout, or whatever –

Rebels 55, Spartans 12.   Score – Rebels 58, Spartans 21.  Finally a good pick.  Enough said.  Looks like the Spartans are playing for the first pick in the draft.

Game 4 – Jags v Gamecocks

The one thing this game will have a lot of is B12 or Juice as they call it.  Between the biggest arms on one team and the biggest trash talker on the other, this could be the game of the season.  Look for the Doctor to make a housecall in the endzone as he’ll be hoping  to spend more time there this game than a whole weekend at Bernie’s. The Gamecock defense will surely find out if blonds do have more fun as they chase Rod Stewart all over the field.  If everyone shows up...and are ready to play...this could be a great game.  Never forget though fellas...this is a house league -  Gamecocks 28, Jags 27.  Score – Jags 20, Gamecocks 14.  Fodor makes his one call of the night and it had to be on Jay that cost me this one.

Game 5 – Firehawks v Barracudas

With several roster spots still open, look for old man river to keep auditioning / signing players to fill those spots.  Does anyone even like him after what he did to the Green Machine guys and Lineskippers?  Just kidding.  The young Barracudas are continually taking their lumps in the toughest division in the place and hope to rise to the occasion with a win tonight to get off the schneid.  Having two receivers is better than one but the blocking schemes on offense need to get better or Thunderlips will get thrown out again.  Someone is bound to win, an defense will be at a premium or minimum this game – Firehawks 48, Barracudas 42.  Score Firehawks 40, Barracudas 0.  Good thing everyone showed up for the Hawks tonight except of course for River’s hands.

We would like to thank all of the teams for forking over the cash so the games could be played.  Great job, as this league is still setting the bar for all others in the building.
